SCouts SUMMER CAMP 2007
CAMP REPORT BACK
1st Langley Scouts spent the week of 29th July to 4th August at "Hampshire 007" a large Scout Camp in the New Forest.
When we got there it was terrible! The ground had been churned up into a sea of mud by a large agricultural show the week before. This meant that there was an enormous traffic jam, because nobody could drive onto the campsite. It took nearly 6 hours before we could start putting up our tents.
Luckily the weather was scorching hot for most of the week, so the mud dried out.
On Tuesday we went to the World Jamboree at Hylands Park, in Essex, so there was a journey - hours and hours - on a coach. The site was massive! Apparently all the tents in one place made it into the second largest town in Essex! It took us half an hour to jog from one side of the site to the other, when the time came to leave. The number of scouts from different countries was mind-blowing. Different uniforms, different customs, different languages. Food and drink from all over the world. We could have spent 3 days and not seen it all - but we only had 3 hours!.
On Wednesday we had the big Scouting Sunrise event, where every Scout in the World made their Promise at 08:00 Local time. There were so many people just in our Hampshire Camp, that people were still queuing to get into the arena when 8 o'clock came. The rest of the day was spent with loads of activities. The RAF sent 2 giant Chinook helicopters over from RAF Odiham and let the Scouts climb all over them. They were really impressive when they flew over the camp. The day ended with songs around the Camp Fire.
On Thursday our Scouts went for a day trip..... to Thorpe Park! Crazy to come all that way back just for the day, but they really enjoyed it.
On Friday there were more activities including funfair rides, before we had to pack up on Saturday. Unfortunately bad traffic jams on the M3 made us very late - our van couldn't get to us until 5 pm, but we all got back safely.
Can't wait for the next camp!
